General Information
Lake on Flat Creek is on the north side and adjacent to the city limits of Johnson City. There are two points of entry; one is from the end of Avenue N and the other (main entry) is off Spur Hwy. 356. The Pedernales River is about 1/2 mile east of the property. Austin is approximately 48 miles, Blanco 12, Fredericksburg 36, Burnet 34, Horseshoe Bay 23, Marble Falls 26, Houston 210, Dallas 205, Fort Worth 202, and San Antonio 66. Blanco County’s Sheriff and Fire Department are less than two miles from the ranch. The closest landing strips are Horseshoe Bay (6,000 ft. x 100 ft, lighted), Burnet (5,000 ft. x 75 ft., lighted), and Fredericksburg (4,600 ft. x 75 ft., lighted).
Local attractions of interest in the vicinity are the National Park Visitor Center, Lyndon Baines Johnson National Historical Park, the LBJ Boyhood Home, Old Johnson Settlement, LBJ State Park, Captain Perry Texas Ranger Museum, Blanco State Park and the Pedernales Falls State Park. Just east of the property are the Johnson City Fair Grounds on the banks of the Pedernales River. Area History
Andrew Jackson Johnson, an older brother to Tom and Sam Johnson, located in the area around 1858. In the 1870s, Sam Early Johnson, Sr. (LBJ’s grandfather) sold his interest to a nephew, James Polk Johnson. During a barbecue in 1879, he donated a 320-acre plot of land on the Pedernales River for the location of a new town. In appreciation, the residents named the new town after him.
Johnson City is a quaint town with approximately 1,200 citizens. It serves as the county seat for Blanco County, which has a population of about 8,400. It has a unique history. See the various Links for a more detail description of its history, shops, entertainment, lodging and dining.
